It’s a family affair on Beyond The Box Set this week, as Harry’s brother Sam Chappell pops by to pitch sequels for one of the funniest, saddest and most depraved British movies ever made - Withnail and I, starring Richard E. Grant and Paul McGann. Released in 1987, Bruce Robinson’s semi-autobiographical black comedy was a low-budget independent movie that became one of the most widely quoted cult classics of the era. Join us as we discuss Camberwell Carrots, questionable cooking, John’s extremely in-depth theory about Marwood’s latent homosexuality and the classic line from this movie that has haunted us for years… Discussing drinking games for this film seem almost moot given it practically invented the concept, but in lieu of downing lighter fluid, we came up with some slightly less lethal alternatives. We also discussed some sequel ideas including an alcohol-fuelled origin story, a bittersweet reunion in the late 90s, and a possibly un-filmable psychological study into the intense co-dependence of the two…
