As an object lesson in terror, it’s hard to beat Stanley Kubrick’s 1980 hotel horror ‘The Shining’. Starring Jack Nicholson and Shelley Duvall as a seriously dysfunctional married couple who choose the wrong hotel for a winter of intense one-on-one time, the movie was a tortured production that scored derisive reviews at the time, but has now been reappraised as a pinnacle of its genre.
