Why Containers Are Everywhere in Microsoft Azure
One clear theme emerged when talking to Corey Sanders, director of compute for Azure. Sanders said containers are everywhere in Azure’s technology infrastructure. He says by far the great greatest use case is for developers who want to use containers to build new apps instead of virtual machines. Microsoft in turn is using containers as a vital infrastructure for managing its own services within Azure and doing it using open source technology. Sanders views reflect the almost impossible to dispute fact that containers really are everywhere in the market and will continue to spread across infrastructure, be it public, on-premises or with a workload mix across all infrastructure environments. Sanders, who joined us virtually at the Open Source Summit in Los Angeles from his office in New Jersey, said that he could talk for hours about containers. They simply are a fundamental shift in application deployment that reflect a new dimension of speed, portability and agility.
